There is a section of the game where Batman needs to get onto Founder’s Island, but first must destroy the defense grid. This requires blinding a drone that hovers above radar – however, since it’s New Game Plus, you have already beaten the original game and thus, have all of the tech toys at hand.

Therefore, I had already destroyed this drone prior to this scripted sequence. The problem? Great job, Rocksteady! I’ve played through the frustrating original campaign, with its pale-imitation-of-previous-games freeflow combat, and am now stuck on New Game Plus, with no way to proceed. What an utter failure this game is, in virtually every capacity. The game is smooth and playable for me. However, that does not mean the game itself is without other problems.

It is, and they are enormous. Rocksteady, in particular, should be ashamed of releasing a game not only in this poor state, but with other flaws that make it a frustrating and, at times, infuriating experience.

As for WB? Well, is anyone even remotely surprised when a MAJOR corporation puts making as much money as quickly as possible over any sort of quality? I spit on them metaphorically for this release, but it makes no difference. Perhaps the greatest issue I have with the game is the hand-to-hand combat.

In previous Arkham games, it was smooth, with Batman flowing seamlessly from one target to another, and allowing you to seamlessly integrate all of the various combat techniques and gadgets. In Knight, the combat is a pale imitator of what came before.

Evasion is nowhere near as responsive as it should be. Batman will not strike, and the consecutive hits counter simply disappear. It completely takes you out of the game. Even more egregious is how Batman will occasionally hit the wrong targets.

In previous games, I could rotate the screen to point at the next guy I wanted to hit. Batman will try to punch a Brute, or a guy with a shield, rather than the intended target. Finally, the ground-and-pound finishing move only works haphazardly. Restart time! The final issue I have is the key mapping. The key mapping in this game flat-out sucks.

This also leads me to the Batmobile. The key mapping for the Batmobile is also terrible. The combat usually consists of moving out of the way of pre-determined attack lines. There are several types of attacks available, but the problem is trying to effectively do everything you can to avoid getting hit, firing your weapon, charging up secondary weapons, etc. At later stages of the game, it becomes ridiculously difficult to manage this with a mouse and keyboard, when the game starts lobbing helicopters, tanks, missile launchers, etc.

You also get thrust into tighter spaces to make dodging more difficult. It’s not fun. It’s a chore. Also, how in the heck do those armored APCs manage to speed so far ahead of the Batmobile, and round sharp bends so tightly without toppling over?

My final gripe involves the pre-order discs. Because I loved the previous games so much, I pre-ordered this from Amazon. When I got it and installed it from the discs, it only had about 7 gigabytes of the 34 required to play the game on the actual discs.

Therefore, I had to spend 4 consecutive days downloading the rest of the game before I could even play it. But no technical issues. I’ve been very happy with this game so far.

Technical Performance: I purchased in May of after the patch s were released and I find that the game plays as well as any of the former ones did. I haven’t experienced any technical issues.

Game-play: The open-world feel is very similar to Arkham City. The game starts with a premise that conveniently empties the streets of all but the bad guys so it has the same relatively empty, criminal element playground feel.

Combat and stealth starts with many of the moves that you had in the previous games and builds on them – to the point where I couldn’t effectively utilize all of the combat moves available to me. It’s a bit too much in my opinion.

I seem to get by fine with the standard hit, counter and evade moves. Stealth adds the ability to chain attacks so you can take down multiple foes who are close to one another. This could potentially make the stealth segments pretty quick except for the fact that they’ve added the ability to revive enemies which I find to be incredibly annoying as it forces you to take down enemies much more quickly.

I prefer to plot my approach and take enemies out one at a time using the features of the environment that make the most sense so this element made stealth feel too rushed for my tastes. This, the focus on combat, and the car make the overall game-play more action-focused than previous games. Whether you like this or not depends on your preferred style of play. The Car: This is the newest element of game-play and it’s such a big element that it deserves its own section. Many people seem to hate this addition to the game.

I think it’s generally okay but it is very different from the approach of any of the other franchises.

There are some missions that require the car but many do not explicitly require it. Personally, I’m fine with the car in its normal driving and combat modes but there’s one element that I find incredibly annoying: the puzzles.

You find yourself in many situations that require you to use the car to solve puzzles through a combination of driving and using what is essentially an electrified harpoon gun. I find many of these missions to be incredibly frustrating. Some require you to climb objects or otherwise move about manipulating elements of the environment with one false moving sending you back to the beginning of your tedious trek. There’s also an electrical powering mechanic that I find almost impossible to master, resulting in endless frustration.

So yeah, these things I could do without. Story: I’ve played about 20 hours so far and am maybe a third of the way through the key elements not counting all the Riddler items of course. I don’t find the story quite as immersive as the previous titles particularly Arkham Asylum which I thought was excellent. Although I do enjoy the Joker elements to the game very much – These were always the strongest elements of the previous games as well.

One person found this helpful. I bought the disc version for pc which was of course pre-patch and sold at a substantial discount. The game code is still valid on Steam which is required for installation. The code is requested by Steam just before disc installation begins. After submitting the code and receiving acceptance, I canceled disc installation. I downloaded the patched version directly from Steam since the game is now part of your library-also the Alienware I have doesn’t have a supermulti external drive accidentally dropped.

The game has beautiful graphics.. I’ve gotten frame rates consistently above 40 on Fraps. The Nvidia GTX m is surely responsible here. Optimizing with GeForce Experience actually reduces settings to low but laptop stays cool. Enable compatibilty mode hit windows 8, click apply Enjoy.

I updated to w10 day one and never got an issue. This one was the only game that game me a fatal error. I just read the forums to see if there was an update on the patch, so I could finally play the Batgirl DLC. I read 4 topics having this issue. This solves it. No problem here runing on Win 10 Pro.
